Natural Headache Busters

One of the things we often get asked about at the Market is if we have anything natural for headaches and/or migraines.

Seems chronic head pain is a common problem for all ages these days. Children, teens, and adults. Not surprising, since there’s so much busyness and stress and tension in our lives. Add to that lack of sleep, food with little nutrition, loads of sugar, and assorted, hidden issues in various direction and you have a recipe for frequent headaches.

We have several natural products that we use ourselves and have found effective for headaches.

To start, we often recommend that folks get more magnesium and minerals in their diets, as it’s been proven that deficiencies in these things often cause headaches. Our Mountain Meadow Tea is rich in magnesium and essential minerals. Since its basically an energy tea, we recommend you drink 2 cups of it every morning. Works well as a coffee replacement. It’s caffeine free, but has the same wake-me-up quality as coffee. I myself use this most every morning. This has been my go-to tea since the stroke because it’s chock-full of so many minerals and vitamins. (Sorry, we no longer offer this online. Send me an email and I will give you the recipe).

Next, we recommend Feverfew Extract. This stuff is wonderful for kicking a headache! If you’re dealing with chronic headaches, then the best results will come from continuous use. Take 1 capsule 3x a day, preferably with food. If it’s just an occasional headache, try taking 1 cap and then take 1 more a half hour later if you still feel pain. If you’re on blood thinners, you probably should talk to your dr. before you use this product as Feverfew has blood thinning properties that could effect the dosage of your meds. Also, Feverfew can make you nauseous if you take too much at one time. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it, but do be careful not to overdo or your tummy won’t like you much. You can find caps on Ebay or Amazon.

Next, is our Headache Blend essential oil blend. Essential oils have long been proven effective for headaches. We have customers at the Market who swear by this blend and buy it regularly. A blend of Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Peppermint e-o’s. We recommend it be diluted of course, or buy it in a rollie bottle. Best when used at the first signs of a headache. Apply to temple vein and across forehead to other temple vein. Don’t get it in your eyes, as the peppermint will surely sting.

And finally, we recommend our Herbal Migraine and Headache Relief Pillow. This is a useful item, made with rice and lavender flowers, for if the headache is really coming on strong and the best thing to do is lie down. If you find your headaches come on because of computer work, this is a great tool to relieve tension at the ‘puter. Just prop it on your shoulder as you work. We have a wide range of material. Everything from sports teams (college and pro) to feminine flowers. Something for everyone!

Some other advice for headaches: find the trigger points on your face and neck and learn to massage these muscles. It’s amazing how this little trick can work wonders for chronic headaches. I used to wake up every morning with a tension headache, but since I discovered what places to massage, the headaches have all but disappeared in just a few days. You can check out triggerpoints.net to do some research and find these areas on your own.

Well, that’s it for this time. Here’s to being naturally headache-free today and everyday!

Later ‘Tater, 🙂
mary
