When people peruse our essential oil blends at the Bartlesville Farmers Market we are often asked, “What brand of oils do we use”. The truth is… several different brands. We’ve been upfront that we aren’t all about one brand. I know that tends to bug the Young Living and DoTerra folks. We don’t mean to offend, but we have a bit of a different take on multi-level marketing companies and their merchandising angles. Don’t get me wrong; they’re good oils for sure. Excellent even. We’ve used them and we recommend them and their products, but other companies have quality oils as well.
There’s very reputable companies selling oils that are just as pure and therapeutic, have cg/ms data on their website for each oil, and are sold for prices that are much more realistic and have no padding added. Some of our favorites would be Plant Therapy, Eden’s Garden, Nature’s Oil or Mountain Rose Herbs. We also often order once a year in bulk from a wholesale essential oil company in Oregon. It is one of the same types of wholesale companies that YL and DT use.
Sharing that knowledge sometimes kinda trips people up because these companies make it sound as if they farm all the plants they use to make their oils. I agree, they may farm some of it, but certainly not all, the way they make it seem. They purchase many of their oils from bulk, wholesale suppliers the way all big EO companies do.
So yes, there’s several different essential oil companies that we use to create products for ourselves and others. We are very careful to use quality oils from various reputable EO companies that are therapeutic grade and have a pure, non-chemical aroma. We also view the proper data on their website for the oils we purchase, and we use companies that we have found to be honest and open about their business practices. We are also very careful to primarily source the oils we use from outside of the States due to pesticide use being much more properly regulated in other countries than it is here. We are especially careful of only using citrus oils that are outside of the US and/or organic (as these are heavily treated with pesticides here).
In the end, we use our products ourselves, and thus we use the oils we purchase. We find them effective, powerful, and above quality for our own needs, our children, and grandchildren. Which is perhaps the most telling thing about the brand/s of essential oils we sell–for if we’re harming our customers due to the brand of oils we use or don’t use, then we’d also be harming ourselves.
